about us

Hello Visitors:

I am a mother of triplets, one with special needs (Rett Syndrome and Mitochondrial Dysfunction).

After designing products for my special needs daughter and her friends,  I decided to offer my home designs to the public. This effort took years to come to reality since I needed to test materials and products to focus on the best quality.  I am happy to announce my new collection that includes bibs, wheelchair blankets and more.  All my products are handcrafted and include specialty fabrics that were tested for durability and quality.

I hope you enjoy my products as much as I do.

Thank you for visiting my site,

Linda McInnis.

FAQS

What do you use for weighted blanket fabric?
I use a top layer of cotton prints of your choice.  In addition to the cotton, I line it with another layer for extra support. The layer closest to the body is either cotton or fleece.  I can make the blanket full fleece upon request.  I will never use a material with a thin weave that may not hold the weight as well.  Inside each quilted pocket is quilt batting (if not full fleece) and the weights.  Too much batting absorbs the weight of the pellets and is counterproductive to the use of a weighted blanket.  Prewashing fabric is an important step in making the blanket.  A lot of companies will not prewash fabrics because they don't want to deal with the washing, ironing when they can just sew a crisp fabric.  If you don't prewash the material you are risking shrinkage and fabric misalignment when they are washed after being made.
The blankets are made in a sewing area that  is never exposed to any food products or pets. Fabrics are stored in airtight containers.

How come your prices are much lower than other weighted blanket companies?
I sew, design and ship every blanket myself.  I order the highest quality fabrics and weights in bulk saving money and use recycled boxes for shipping.

What do you use to weight the blankets?
I use Poly Pellets from Fairfield.  In blankets that are going to be washed it is important never to use rice, corn, rocks (especially aquarium rocks with toxic chemicals), or anything that can mold or break the blanket fibers.  Poly Pellets are Non Toxic and they are rounded.  They are the most expensive part of a weighted blanket and run up to $3 a pound but are worth it.

Can you Wash and Dry the Blankets?
You can wash and lay flat to dry for best results. (you should also be able to tumble dry air or low heat).  I made them very foolproof to wash.  No taking the weights out of the blanket only to get lost.  Just put the blanket in a low cycle with no bleach or fabric softener.  Lay flat to dry or tumble dry air or low heat.   I recommend for blankets over 10 pnds that you either use a commercial size washer or buy a duvet cover/use blanket on sheet since if you add water the blanket will be more like 20 pnds.

Who Uses the Weighted Blankets?
I go to a lot of fairs and also sell my blankets across the country.  I found most of my sales for lap pads are for schools.  They like to try the lap pads for kids who need to sit while working.  I sell a lot of blankets at fairs and on ebay.  I have sold quite a few recently to adults with Aspergers, MS and Alzheimer's.  I sell a lot of child blankets to kids on the Autism spectrum, both boys and girls. Group homes are eligible for discounts sales as well as repeat customers.   My blankets have also been purchased by hospitals for use to calm children and adults in crisis modes.  It is very hard for families with children and teens with mental health issues to leave them at hospitals when they need to receive help because they are having problems.  The blankets hopefully provide comfort in those first nights alone in a new place. Anyone who need calming input can benefit from a weighted blanket.

What size blanket should I purchase?
I try to be very generous with my sizing and prices.  You should carefully select the right size blanket for your weight and height.  You should measure from your neck down to your feet.  The blanket should be able to cover just over your feet and just across your body.  You don't want to have a blanket too big because you'll have a low weight spread over too much area.  For example:  A child that is 50 pnds. should have a blanket that is 10% of child's weight plus a one or two  for growth = 6pnds.  You don't want to have 6 pnds. spread in a full size  blanket so the biggest blanket you'd want to purchase is the child's or twin size.  Once the child is 100 pnds you can then have a full blanket because it would be 12 or more pnds. over a full blanket.  Also, don't be worried about weight and one or two extra or less pounds.  You will not feel the difference of one or two plus or minus pounds spread over a blanket..that just come down to ounces.  Only over two pnds. will you feel a slight difference.

To make the weighted blankets: If it's is a heavy material I calculate the weight of the material also.  I have a metric scale and measure out the weights into a large bucket.  I also calculate the number of pockets x ounce per pocket.  Therefore, the blanket is being weighed twice for accuracy.
